OJSC NIKIET is incorporated into OJSC Atomenergoprom which has consolidated the civilian assets of the Russian nuclear sector and provides for the entire production cycle of the nuclear power industry - from uranium mining to NPP construction and electricity generation.

Íome >> News / IV NATO Advanced Research Workshop "Nuclear Power and Energy Security" (NPES 2009) took place in Yerevan (Armenia) on May 26-29, 2009.

 

The workshop, supported by the NATO Science for Peace and Security Programme, was organized by the Advanced Science and Technology Center (ASTEC, Armenia) and Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL, USA).

The event was attended by scientists and engineers from Russia, Armenia, USA, Kazakhstan, Italy, Belgium and other countries.

B.A. Gabaraev, Director of NIKIET, spoke at the workshop about the innovative systems currently developed in this Institute (B.A. Gabaraev's presentation "Innovative Designs of Nuclear Reactors" in English (MS Word®, 3.3 Mb)).

The workshop has looked into the steps essential for preserving the nuclear power as an important option to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide and other atmospheric pollutants and meet growing energy needs. The participants discussed the technical, economic, environmental and political challenges facing large-scale deployment of nuclear power.

The discussion demonstrated the vital importance of the issues addressed at the workshop and suggested the ways of dealing with them.
