On graduating from the physics faculty of Moscow State University, Yuri Dragunov had worked for more than 40 years at Gidropress, starting as designer and growing to director and designer-general in 1998-2007. He successfully steered Gidropress in new conditions to enter the global market of nuclear power plants.
In 2007 he became adviser to Atomenergoprom director and later joined United Engineering Plants as deputy director-general and (in 2008) first deputy director-general.
Yuri Dragunov is a known authority on the VVER plants and liquid metal coolant facilities.
He is doctor of technical sciences; professor; corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences; prize winner of the Council of Ministers of the USSR; Distinguished Designer of the Russian Federation; honorary citizen of Moscow District, and has been awarded the Order of Merit.
