Main activities:

  • Development and application of scientific approaches, software and methodologies for analysis of the general, nuclear and radiation safety of different reactors and nuclear power plants
  • Assessment of the economic and insurance risk of nuclear facilities, including development of relevant codes and methodologies
  • Development and application of scientific approaches, software and methodologies for analysis of reliability, residual lifetime and decommissioning of reactor systems
  • Development of special stress-strain state analysis techniques and their application for the strength, reliability and lifetime analysis of components of existing and future reactors
  • Participation in the development and introduction of guidelines for a comprehensive safety and security analysis of nuclear power plants and research facilities (based on the IAEA anti-terrorism documents).

The Probabilistic Safety and Risk Assessment Center was set up NIKIET in January of 2006.

The purpose of the Center is to develop and put in use scientific approaches, software and methodologies for safety and risk analysis (in particular, probabilistic) of different reactors, nuclear power plants and other nuclear systems.

The Center develops new mathematical methods and calculation procedures based on the probabilistic theory and mathematical statistics, to be used for the probabilistic and deterministic safety analysis of various nuclear and non-nuclear facilities. The developments are at the level of software implementation now; they are successfully used to perform various studies.
